SYCAMORE | Finding peace and balance in one’s life is quite a daunting task; Yoga, meditation, journaling, etc. are all methods of trying to accomplish just that.

Certain individuals allow themselves to instruct others on how to do just that because they have already achieved balance in their own lives.

Author Susan Mavity will be present at Sycamore Public Library, 103 E. State St., for “An Evening with Susan Mavity: The Light Within” on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

This will be a return visit for Mavity, who had spoken at the library previously about angel therapy, of which she is a practitioner. Upon hearing of her new book published this past fall, The Light Within, the library invited her back.

“We’re glad to have her back,” said Larry Zevnik, head of adult services at the library.

Many of the topics Mavity discusses are quite popular with Sycamore residents, Zevnik said. Soul-searching, inner peace and divinity were popular the last time and Zevnik hopes for 20 to 30 attendees on Tuesday.

According to the Sycamore Public Library’s website, “[Mavity] will be discussing her book and doing a guided meditation to [her CD recording] The Rose Garden.”

The meditation part of the night is quite exciting to Mavity.

“I love doing guided imagery. It is so powerful on all levels and can be an opportunity for great insight and connecting to one’s inner voice,” she said.

Mavity’s credentials include: a Master’s degree in metaphysics and spiritual counseling, certified Reiki Master Instructor, integrated energy Master Instructor, flower essence practitioner: Master Flower Essence, certified meditation instructor and angel therapy practitioner, according to her website.

Curiosity or genuine interest in bettering one’s lifestyle are just a few of the reasons someone may be drawn to Mavity’s event on Tuesday.

Guided by someone who has experienced a traumatic event and successfully healed from it, Mavity said The Light Within seeks to inspire.

“It is my greatest hope that by sharing my story with others, it will inspire them to look inside explore the possibilities we all have with us to live in grace and harmony,” Mavity said. “[Not only to] recognize the miracles all around us but to experience the incredible gifts we all have within.”
