Fax problems delay course add/drops for commuters
January 27, 2011
Students who commute to NIU may have difficulty adding or dropping a course within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
As of Wednesday afternoon, the college was unable to receive faxes from outside the university, said Jill Boersma, director of undergraduate studies, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
“We can send faxes out,” Boersma said. “We can receive faxes from inside NIU, but we cannot receive from outside NIU.”
This is particularly important because the deadline for adding or dropping a class is Friday at 4 p.m.
“That’s really and truly the deadline,” Boersma said.
During the first week of class, student can add or drop a course through MyNIU . During the second week, students need written permission from the department.
Boersma said this process could be difficult for students who live out of town, especially without the ability to fax in their permission slip.
“This is just not an option,” she said.
Boersma said the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is accepting walk-ins on Thursday and Friday from 1:00 p.m. to 4 p.m.
