DeKALB | Ice skating is again a possibility in DeKalb.

The DeKalb Park District flooded an open area of Lions Park for the winter, creating an ice rink located on West Taylor Street.

People had been asking about winter activities for the park, said Cindy Capek, executive director of the DeKalb Park District.

“So we said let’s give it a shot,” Capek said.

It’s the second winter since last year that the area has been flooded.

Capek said the park district will maintain upkeep for as long as temperatures permit.

“We’re pleased that the community is taking advantage of the ice rink,” Capek said.

She said the rink is a great opportunity for all ages to engage in an enjoyable winter activity.

DeKalb Mayor Kris Povlsen applauded the park district’s efforts.

“I see it as a positive thing for the community,” Povlsen said.
