DeKALB | Bond was set for an NIU student charged with armed robbery and home invasion.

Jamari Sanford, 20, of DeKalb, is being held at the DeKalb County Jail on $300,000 bond. In order to be released Sanford would have to post 10 percent, or $30,000.

At about 5 p.m. on Thursday, DeKalb Police officers responded to a call about an armed robbery in the 900 block of Crane Drive, according to a release by the DeKalb Police Department.

Two victims told police that two men had entered their room and were armed with handguns, the release said.

One of the victims received an injury in a struggle with the one of the suspects. The victim was treated and released from Kishwaukee Community Hospital the release said.

Sanford and another suspect left shortly after with property of both victims.

Sanford was located and arrested after leaving an apartment building in the 1000 block of Aspen Drive, according to the release. No weapons were found.

DeKalb Police Lt. Gary Spangler said another arrest should be made.

“Police are still investigating this incident with anticipation of a potential arrest,” Spangler said.

This is the third reported armed robbery since Nov. 10.

Nov. 10, it was reported that a pizza delivery driver was robbed by gunpoint by two men at Suburban Apartments, 1305 N. Annie Glidden Road. Nov. 17, it was reported that a male student was robbed at gunpoint near Welsh Park.

Spangler said police were trying to determine if Thursday’s armed robbery was related to the other two.

“We don’t have any evidence that connects this to other robberies,” Spangler said.

Armed robbery and home invasion are both Class X felonies, punishable up to 30 years. Sanford is due in court Nov. 29.
