Body scanners threaten our freedoms as citizens
November 30, 2010
It’s very simple. You can either have safety, or you can have freedom.
By their very nature, these two principles stand at opposite ends of the ideological spectrum. They foil one another just like water and oil, but as it sadly turns out, freedom is far more fleeting than safety.
When one declares war on an idea, every idea, in essence, is subjected to a never ending declaration of war.
This can frighteningly enough include the very idea that served as the catalyst for our nation’s very existence; freedom. Are we really still the “home of the free and the land of the brave?”
Unfortunately, based on the responses in Demarcus Robinson’s Q&A from Nov. 17, the answer is clearly and sorrowfully in the negative.
At some point, we as citizens must take a step back and reflect in order to see what is plainly right in front of our faces; when we turn our backs on freedom, freedom will turn its back on us and at that point, the “terrorists” (emphasizing quotations) really have won. Body scanners are the antithesis of freedom and I applaud all who oppose them.
“Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?” Who will watch the watchers? We the people will, if we are brave enough.
