LIHEAP offers assistance to help pay energy bills
November 28, 2010
Money is available for DeKalb County and Kane County residents to pay their home energy bills, according to a Community Contacts press release.
The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is taking applications by appointment, the release stated.
According to the release, the program offers a once-yearly benefit for eligible households, including both renters and homeowners.
Applicants who do not pay their energy bills directly may also be eligible for assistance, and households do not have to be behind in their bills.
A reconnection component is available for those who are disconnected from their energy services, the release stated.
The release stated eligibility is based on the household’s combined income.
For a household of one, the gross income for the last 30 days cannot exceed $1,354; for two people $1,821; for three people $2,289; for four people $2,756 and for five people $3,224.
