Led Zeppelin cover band playing at Otto’s

By Lilli Mauser

Tonight, Otto’s Nightclub, 118 E. Lincoln Highway, will host iconic cover band Led Zeppelin 2. The band is comprised of Bruce Lamont (lead vocals), Chris Klein (bass guitar, keyboards, mandolin, bass pedals), Ian Lee (drums) and Paul Kamp (guitar).

The Northern Star was able to grab an interview Lamont about the band and its obvious influence before they took the stage.

Northern Star: So what’s your all-time favorite Led Zeppelin song?

Bruce Lamont: Achilles Last Stand

NS: Why do you think Led Zeppelin has been so popular for so long?

BL: Their music is timeless and it set the tone for so much after that: songwriting, recording technology, visually and aesthetically… They are like no other rock band. They are all encompassing. They have an edge to them that other singers, like Elvis, didn’t have. I’ve been listening to Led Zeppelin since I was 4 years old. It’s almost like comfort music. It’s been so inundated into our society.

NS: How long have you guys been together?

BL: Ten years, but we just started touring this past year.

NS: Do you draw inspiration from [Zeppelin frontman] Robert Plant?

BL: I’ve seen a ton of footage of him. I don’t mimic him but I try to stay as true to his voice as possible.

NS: If you could ask Robert Plant one question, what would it be?

BL: Will you please forgive me? [laughs]

NS: What’s your favorite band of all time?

BL: Led Zeppelin, John Coltrane and Slayer.

NS: What modern day bands are you inspired by?

BL: Mastodon, Battles and The High Confessions.

NS: What’s your favorite live show?

BL: The jazz duo, Steve Lacey and Roswell Rudd.
