DeKalb theatre group performs Agatha Christie play
October 13, 2010
Ten strangers are invited to an ocean island under false pretenses. Trapped, they begin to be murdered one by one. Before long they realize the murderer must be-dun dun dun-one of them.
Though the plot has been “done to death” in both theatre and film, the original idea comes from Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None, said Tim Ball, the director of The Stage Coach Players’ presentation of the play.
The play will be held at Stage Coach Theatre, 126 S. Fifth St., at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday with one matinee performance at 2 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets cost $12 for adults and $9 for children under 12.
“I’ve always been fascinated with the story,” Ball said.
To make the show appropriate for all ages, Ball set most of the violence off stage. This allows the imagination of the viewer to fill in for the brutal actions, Ball said.
The cast includes Sheryl Bragg as Vera, James J. Malouf as Captain Lombard, and as John Mehalic as William Blore. The cast is also comprised of Steve Wright, Darlene Hillman, Orv Kersten, Kim Lamansky, John Linderoth, Shawn Skau, Chrisopher Roe, and Vincent Virtue.
The show was well-attended last weekend when it opened, Ball said he is anticipating a good turnout over the next few days. He advises attendees to buy their tickets in advance for front row seats, but said that he doubts anyone who buys their tickets at the door will be turned away.
