Key player for North Dakota: QB Jake Landry
September 8, 2010
Sioux head coach Chris Mussman still believes his football team can improve from its 6-5 2009 campaign.
But if North Dakota wants to win more games, quarterback Jake Landry will have to make strides in what separates successful quarterbacks from the rest of the pack: making the right decisions on the field.
Landry failed to do this in North Dakota’s loss to Idaho, committing two of the five turnovers by the Sioux’ offense.
Mussman gave a simple explanation of what he expects and needs his senior signal caller to do if North Dakota wants to win Saturday night.
“We need some consistency out of him,” Mussman said. “Basically just distribute the ball. If he can do that, we’ve got an opportunity [to win].”
Landry’s prime asset is his arm strength, which is something that offensive coordinator Greg Breitbach will look to exercise against the Huskies.
Landry doesn’t possess game-changing speed and athleticism but can occasionally shake-off defenders. Last year, for example, he ran for a total of 92 yards in the 31-17 upset victory over Cal Poly.
“He’s mobile enough to make people miss,” Mussman said.
