Not all of us are privileged students

By Letter Writer

As I was flipping through the Northern Star Tuesday, I stumbled upon Logan Short’s article “For me, U.S. health care system is great.” Upon reading the article, I must say I was pretty angry. The thought that someone would be so disappointed because beer and cigarettes came at a higher price to fund health care was beyond me.

As a beer drinker and a smoker, I can say that I would not mind it if my beer and cigarettes came at higher price for the sake of giving me and others health care when I am out of school. These products are something I consider a luxury and in no way do I need them.

The fact that we are in college now does not guarantee us all a job upon graduation that will provide adequate health care.

I am glad that you, Mr. Short, are privileged enough to have parents that were not affected as much as others by the current economic downturn who allow you to not have to worry about having to pay for your own health care after college.

I’m glad that for you, a privileged college kid, the system is great.
