‘The Missouri Valley Conference commissioners met in St. Louis to vote on whether or not to give NIU an invitation to the conference. If given the invitation, all sports besides football, which made the transition to the Big West this year, would be able to move. Sources say that NIU, which is currently a member of the Mid-Continent Conference, will accept the invitation if it is given.

‘Members from ESPN will be meeting with NIU’s senior tailback, LeShon Johnson for a feature story. Johnson is currently leading the nation in rushing with 1,611 yards.

‘Chicago White Sox pitcher Jack McDowell was voted the American League Cy Young Award winner last night. McDowell, who led the White Sox to the American League West title, also led the American League with a 22-10 record. Randy Johnson of the Seattle Mariners came in second in the voting.
