Cross Country opens season, finishes sixth

Last Friday, the NIU cross country team opened its 2010 regular season with a sixth place finish at the Wisconsin Badger Classic. Sophomore Courtney Oldenburg led the way for the Huskies, with an eighth place finish overall. NIU comes home this Saturday to host the Huskie Open at 11:15 a.m.

Women’s tennis hosts NIU Invite

NIU women’s tennis will get its season up and running this weekend when it hosts the NIU Invite in Aurora. The invite will go all day Friday and Saturday. The Huskies are looking to rebound from a disappointing 2009-10 campaign that featured a 7-13 regular season and a first round exit in the MAC Tournament.

Foley has strong summer

NIU men’s golf doesn’t get going until next Monday, but that didn’t stop freshman Shawn Foley from getting warmed up this summer. The highlight of Foley’s offseason was a win in the 18 and under age division of the 37th annual Mike Bencriscutto Junior Masters State Match Play Tournament. The lefty’s summer also included a tie for fourth place at the Wisconsin PGA Junior Championship.
