Japanese band set to rock NIU

By NORTHERN STAR STAFF

Human bowling? Wrestling? Kung-Fu? These are just normal elements of a Peelander-Z show.

The self-proclaimed “Japanese Action Comic Punk Band” Peelander-Z will bring its eccentric act to DeKalb when the band plays at The House Cafe, 263 E. Lincoln Highway, Saturday at 8 p.m.

To promote their new album, “P-POP-HIGH SCHOOL” and song “Ninja High School,” members Peelander-Yellow, Peelander-Red and Peelander-Green, who all ironically hail from “Planet Peelander” dress up in color-coordinated outfits as if they came straight out of Japanese animation, according to the group’s official Web site.

The shows are unique for incorporating audience members into the show.

After 10 years of being together, the trio of Peelander-Z has racked up five albums, a DVD and a nationwide tour.

Also playing are the Minneapolis band Birthday Suits and DeKalb bands Jim Crowbot and Richardson Richardson. Tickets are $8.
