No. 5: George Bork
April 27, 2009
George Bork is all over the passing category of the NIU football record book. He was the first collegiate passer to throw for 3,000 yards out of the Blitz-T formation in Howard Fletcher’s offense.
Bork was a two-time unanimous Little All-America pick and received votes on The Associated Press and United Press International All-America units, and even garnered support for the Heisman Trophy. He led NIU to a 10-0-0 record, winning the 1963 AP and NAIA National Championship. When Huskie Stadium was built in 1965, it was nicknamed “The House that Bork Built.” The success of the Bork teams led to the Huskies joining NCAA Division I-A in 1969.
