No. 48: Tom Wittum

Tom Wittum is arguably the best kicker to play at Northern Illinois.
Wittum, nicknamed ‘The Toe,’ is a two-time NIU Hall of Famer in football and baseball. He was also voted onto the All-Century team in 1999 as a punter.
When he graduated from NIU he held nine kicking records for longest field goal, most career field goals, most punts in a game, season and career, most punt yards in a game, season and career and also for career punt average.
Wittum led the Huskies in scoring in 1969 and also in kick scoring from 1969 to 1971.
In baseball, Wittum was the NIU team MVP from 1970 to 1971 and was third base on the
First-team CoSIDA Academic All-American team in 1972.
Wittum was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the eighth round and made two career Pro Bowls. He was also drafted by the Chicago White Sox in 1968.
