‘Second City’ comes to NIU
April 2, 2009
Chicago’s finest comedy is coming to DeKalb.
Those who gather at the Egyptian Theater, 135 N. Second Street, this Saturday will be in for a night of laughter as Chicago’s historic comedy group Second City is due for an appearance.
Founded in Chicago, Second City has been the starting grounds for some of the world’s most prestigious comedians including Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Tina Fey, Steve Carell and dozens more.
Since its creation in 1959, Second City has expanded its show across the United States and into Canada, according to its official Web site. The show is constantly changing in order to bring audiences the most current and freshest humor.
Although known for its short sketches, Second City’s shows consist primarily of improvisation. Cast member Dana Quercioli said the audience should expect some social and political satire humor.
“[The audience] should be ready to give suggestions,” Quercioli said. “Because the more original suggestion, the more fun we have.”
NIU students and DeKalb residents should get ready for a good time and expect to laugh a lot. Second City has a no-holds-barred attitude on all subject matters and is trained to give audiences the night of their lives. “I am excited to come [to DeKalb],” Quercioli said.
This is not the first time a Second City troupe has come to DeKalb and Quercioli said the preceding troupes had a good time.
Whomever sees these comedians in the making should be prepared to throw out wild and crazy suggestions to fully enjoy a night with some of the most talented up-and-coming comedians in the Chicago area.
Tickets range from $15 to $25. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. with doors opening at 6:30 p.m.
