6th Ward Alderman campaigns to students
April 2, 2009
My name is Eugene Smith and I am a candidate for 6th ward alderman. On the campaign trail, I have seen a true lack of community outreach by the incumbent for the last eight years.
Talking to residents, they were either displeased with the lack of communication or simply didn’t know who their representative was. This needs to change and is a fundamental reason of why I am running for alderman.
Should I be elected, I vow to go door-to-door and hold monthly forums for the community during all four years of my term to gather input from my constituents so that I can best address their needs. I can’t afford to waste money on fancy signs or glossy mass-mailings, but I do care about this community and will represent everyone fully — both permanent DeKalb residents and NIU students.
April 7 is your opportunity to bring true change to DeKalb’s 6th ward. I am the best candidate to help lead this change because I care about this community and its direction. I will make sure all of you have a voice in the decisions that are made by this city.

I hope to get your vote on April 7. Thank you.
