‘Miss March’ unoriginal, immature

“Miss March” – 7/10

College-based comedy movies have been stacking up faster than ever these days as it feels a new one is released every month.

The aptly-titled “Miss March” struts into theatres, and while the audience gazes on, they expect to see the usual crazy party scenes with half-naked women and “d-bag” guys binge drinking, doing stupid things, puking or having sex. Wildly entertaining and nostalgic this all may be to post-collegiate audience members, the laughs are cheap and generally unoriginal.

“Miss March” is unoriginal in the sense that it contains all of the previous staples of today’s “Animal House” standard, but it’s in a different way than we’re used to seeing so the laughs are genuine.

Trevor Moore and Zach Cregger, who wrote, directed and starred in the film, bring the same edgy humor that propels their underground comedy show “The Whitest Kids U’Know” to the film. While some may not approve of the crude, witty, offensive and immature nature of their humor, the film will not let fans of the show down as it feels like a 90-minute episode of “Whitest Kids.”

Moore and Cregger play the deep-rooted bromantic duo of Tucker and Eugene who travel to L.A. to seek Eugene’s girlfriend, who became a Playboy model while he was in a coma for the last four years. The road trip that ensues is a pilgrimage full of stomach churning bathroom humor (but with perfect, hilarious timing), degradation of women, deranged firemen and things your mother would be ashamed you were watching.

The movie isn’t all about centerfolds and pin-ups running around and partying but also has a lesson to be learned about treating women with respect. “Hef” himself sits down with the main character to explain the importance of “finding the bunny within” while also appreciating the beauty of the exterior. While the lesson is memorable, it isn’t preachy and is well hidden among the ridiculous cross-country escapades with firemen and a politically incorrect rapper named Horsed–k.MPEG.

While not everyone is immature enough to find humor or enjoyment with this film, those who still giggle at farts will be dying with laughter at “Miss March.”
