By NORTHERN STAR STAFF

The NIU All University Band will remember Feb. 14 and those who lost their lives in their first performance of the year tonight at the Boutell Memorial Concert Hall at 8:00 p.m.

Under the direction of Alexis K. Janners and Adam La Spata, the University Band will perform a piece called “An American Elegy,” a piece originally written by Frank Ticheli in memory of the events that happened at Columbine High School in 1999.

“…It is offered as a tribute to their great strength and courage in the face of a terrible tragedy,” said the composer about his piece in a news release.

Other pieces that will be performed include “Colours” by Roger Cichy and a piece based on the classic novel “Moby Dick,” “Of Sailors And Whales” by W. Francis McBeth. School of Music faculty member Dr. Tim Blickhan will narrate the piece.

The concert is free and open to the public.
