DeKALB | A faulty gas heater is believed to be responsible for a fire that caused an estimated $25,000 in damage to a house Thursday night.

At 6:34 p.m., the DeKalb Fire Department was called to the residence at 1701 Pickwick Lane and found smoke coming from the garage and upstairs bedroom. Firefighters entered the garage and extinguished the fire near the ceiling, and found additional fire in the upstairs bedroom, according to a DeKalb Fire Department news release.

Both areas were extinguished in about 30 minutes, and damage was limited to the garage and one upper bedroom, according to the release. No one was injured in the fire, but one resident was examined for minor smoke inhalation at the scene and released.

The cause of the fire was found to be a hanging overhead heating unit inside the garage that had malfunctioned, according to the release.
