Police arrest robbery suspect
February 20, 2009
Police arrested three DeKalb men after a traffic stop Wednesday afternoon in the 700 block of Lucinda Avenue.
At about 2 p.m., DeKalb Police stopped a vehicle they saw making a turn without signaling and found Justin B. Doak, 22, Walter Gay, 21, and Rodney Parker, 17, inside.
A check of Doak showed he had an active warrant for failing to appear in court for criminal damage to property. While searching Doak, police found a handgun in his pocket along with a loaded magazine in another pocket, said DeKalb Police Sgt. Bob Redel.
Police also learned Gay had a warrant for failing to appear in court for delivery of a controlled substance. Police found drug paraphernalia in a search of the vehicle. All three men were arrested and taken to DeKalb County Jail.
After the stop, police charged Parker with a robbery from August 2008 where the victim reported being robbed by three men in the 800 block of Edgebrook Drive, according to a DeKalb Police Department news release. The victim was minorly injured in the robbery, but no weapon was implied or used during the robbery, according to the release.
“His name came up in the investigation early on, and this was the first chance we had to find him and interview him,” said DeKalb Police Lt. Gary Spangler.
Parker was charged with robbery and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, and Doak was charged with three counts of aggravated use of a weapon.
