Warmer temperatures, then cold front, in store for coming week
February 5, 2009
Warmer temperatures will spring up this weekend, but the chill of winter has not finished its run.
NIU Staff Meteorologist Gilbert Sebenste said warm weather is expected to hit this weekend.
“We’re getting warm weather from the Western United States,” he said. “The warm weather will spread late this week, and it’s about time.”
The warmer temperatures won’t last long. Sebenste said a cold front is also on its way.
“We’re going to be varying in temperatures, and a cold front is expected late this weekend to bring us down to average [February] temperatures,” he said. “But the really cold weather we’ve been having is not coming back anytime soon.”
Winter’s end is creeping closer, but the end of winter temperatures is still unknown.
“Meteorologic spring will arrive March 1, and astronomic spring should be around March 21,” Sebenste said. “Whether or not it will be warm enough to call it spring remains to be seen.”
