“Wall-E”

Pixar’s latest film was funny, visually stunning, emotional, and depicted an interesting future for mankind. Main characters spoke few words, yet were able to express deep emotions. It’s not every year that a film with such little dialogue and CG-animated characters can produce an emotional and funny movie for children and adult audiences.

“The Dark Knight”

2008 was overall a solid year for the world of arts and entertainment, but no business shined brighter than that of cinema. It was a year packed to the brim with summer blockbusters and box-office titans, cult hits and some colossal misses, which makes picking one favorite all the more difficult. Despite strong showings from Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford in their respective franchises, it was Christopher Nolan’s intricately masterminded crime thriller “The Dark Knight” that takes home the top prize.

“Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants 2”

The first year of college can be a frightening experience as the whole world seems to open up with exciting opportunities and new friendships. The second installment in this chick-lit franchise keeps the audience on edge, questioning whether the foursome’s friendship will survive. Amidst new loves, following dreams, and life’s challenges, the friends realize that no matter how far apart they may be, good friendship can survive anything.

“Milk”

In one of the few movies that seemed to stand out in 2008, Sean Penn plays Harvey Milk, an openly gay California politician. This movie was a real eye-opener to the story of a man whose story was previously untold. Penn, James Franco, Emile Hirsch and Josh Brolin were a few of the actors who delivered wonderful performances. This film is a must-see for the reason that it was put together in such a way that made history fascinating to even the most unlikely viewers.
