By NORTHERN STAR STAFF

DeKALB | Larry English continues to add accolades to his already impressive resume, as the senior defensive end will play in the Under Armour Senior Bowl this Saturday.

The game will be played at 6 p.m. Saturday in Mobile, Ala. and will be televised by NFL Network.

English is the fifth Huskie selected to play in the Senior Bowl, joining LeShon Johnson (1994), Ryan Diem (2001), Michael Turner (2004) and Garrett Wolfe (2007).

Playing alongside English on the North team will be Texas Tech quarterback Graham Harrell, Ohio State linebacker Marcus Freeman, Oklahoma wide receiver Juaquin Iglesias and Scout’s Inc. No. 13 player in the 2009 NFL Draft, Oklahoma State tight end Brandon Pettigrew.

The North team will be coached by the staff of the Cincinnati Bengals and the South team will be led by coaches from the Jacksonville Jaguars. The South team will feature Ole Miss offensive tackle Michael Oher (Scout’s Inc. No. 23), West Virginia quarterback Pat White, Alabama quarterback John Parker Wilson and USC linebacker Rey Maualuga (Scout’s Inc. No. 15).

The Senior Bowl is a proving ground of sorts for college football seniors to improve, or hurt their draft status. Past Senior Bowl players include Brian Urlacher, Dan Marino and Walter Payton.

A Senior Bowl nod adds to English’s list of awards and recognition this season which included his second consecutive Mid-American Conference MVP award, while becoming NIU’s all-time sack leader with 31.5 sacks.
