Final sentencing handed down in Noriega case
January 23, 2009
The last person involved in the April 2007 death of Luis Noriega was sentenced Friday.
Nathan Schrank, 23, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and one count of aggravated battery on Nov. 7.
Schrank received 30 months probation for both of his charges, involuntary manslaughter and one count of aggravated battery.
He also was sentenced to 180 days in DeKalb County jail, 365 days work release followed by 6 months of electronic home monitoring and also ordered to undergo an alcohol evaluation and comply with recommendations, said Bill Engerman, DeKalb County first assistant state’s attorney.
Schrank also must pay restitution for funeral and medical expenses. That amount will be set in a hearing on Jan. 29.
“We respect the judge’s ruling, but we asked that the defendant be sent to the Illinois Department of Corrections,” Engerman said.
