“My Bloody Valentine 3-D”

Rating: 7/10

A shaky beam of light pans across a dark theater illuminating the anxious expressions of over 75 faces equipped with 3-D glasses. As a Darth Vader-like breathing apparatus is heard, audience members shriek as the eyeball of a terrified teenager pops out of the screen and almost onto the lap of the viewers. Welcome to the third dimension.

This first gruesome scene only marks the beginning of the literal horror thrill ride of “My Bloody Valentine 3-D.” The filmmakers behind this have successfully turned a C-grade horror flick into a state of the art, life-like show where audiences become a part of the action, whether they like it or not.

While the plot is about as well-developed and coherent as a Lifetime movie, the villain, Henry Warden, has an original look and at some times, is actually terrifying. A psychotic mine worker with his bloody pick-ax in hand is the perfect slasher film villain for this gory story.

“My Bloody Valentine 3-D” is not a film for people with weak stomachs, and is filthy enough to make the bravest people squirm. But, for those that can handle the gore, the 3-D entertainment shown in the trailers is worth the hype. It takes a little time for your eyes to adjust to the glasses, but cinematics really do pop out of the screen and it makes for one heck of a movie-going experience.

Although someone shouldn’t attend this run-of-the-mill horror story with high expectations for acting or plot-development, “My Bloody Valentine 3-D” is a film that is more of an experience than a work of art.
