A Sandwich man’s alleged domestic fight left him short a cup of coffee and behind bars at the DeKalb County Jail Tuesday morning.

At 8:20 p.m. Monday, DeKalb Police were called to a residence in the 200 block of East Lincoln Highway for a domestic argument between the suspect, Blake Brockman, 45, and a family member, according to a DeKalb Police Department news release.

At around midnight the same night, police were called to a fight at Third Street and Lincoln Highway. Police found Brockman injured from a fight with another person who was connected to the earlier domestic argument. Brockman was transported to Kishwaukee Community Hospital (KCH) for his injuries from the fight and issued a citation for fighting in the city.

After being released from KCH at about 1:15 a.m. Tuesday, Brockman returned to downtown DeKalb to get his car. He then ran into a family member in a parking lot in the 100 block of West Lincoln Highway, who was connected to the earlier two domestic fights, according to the news release.

Brockman and the family member started arguing, and he threw a cup of coffee on the family member, according to the release. Brockman then left the area to pick up his vehicle.

At about 1:32 a.m., Brockman returned to the 100 block of West Lincoln Highway and rammed his vehicle into a parked car, near which the victim of the earlier fight was standing, requiring them to jump out of the way to avoid being hit, according to the news release. The victim sustained a minor injury that did not require medical attention.

Witnesses said Brockman was driving about 30 mph when he rammed his vehicle into the parked car, said DeKalb Police Lt. Gary Spangler. Police are still investigating Brockman’s intent for ramming his vehicle into the parked car, Spangler said.

A patrol officer in the area stopped Brockman as he was fleeing the scene and arrested him. Brockman was charged with criminal damage to property, aggravated battery, reckless driving, driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident.

Brockman was later taken to DeKalb County Jail pending bond.
