By MIKE BUDA

The quest for a Mid-American Conference Tournament championship and an NCAA tournament bid continues today for the NIU volleyball team.

The sixth-seeded Huskies (18-13, 9-7) are pitted against third-seeded Miami (Ohio) (18-10, 12-4) in the MAC quarterfinals.

The match will begin at 12:30 p.m. at the SeaGate Centre in Toledo, Ohio.

NIU has won four of its last five matches entering the contest, but under head coach Ray Gooden, NIU is 0-5 in the MAC quarterfinals.

The Huskies and RedHawks met once this season, and Miami came out on top in four sets.

Miami leads the all-time series with NIU, 16-14.

Outside hitter Meagan Schoenrock fronts the Huskie attack with 494 kills and 4.41 kills per set, which is good for second in the MAC.

Freshman Allison McGlaughlin follows close behind with 358 kills and 33 serving aces.

The NIU defense is piloted by sophomore Maddie Hughes, who has compiled 497 digs and 4.44 digs per set.

Along with NIU, the RedHawks come into the meeting having won four of their last five matches.

Miami’s offense is versatile and strong.

They are second in the MAC in hitting percentage with .245, second in assists with 12.94 assists per set, second in kills with 13.83 kills per set and third in blocking with 2.00 blocks per set.

Middle hitter Megan Griffin leads the RedHawks and the MAC with a .355 hitting percentage.

Sophomore Andrea Atteberry directs the attack with 11.12 assists per set, which is second in the MAC.

If the Huskies were to win, they would play the winner of Ball State and Ohio at 6 p.m. Saturday in the semifinals.
