Jazz Band brings it to Boutell
November 13, 2008
Boutell Memorial Concert Hall was transformed into a jazz club Tuesday night as the NIU Jazz Band enlightened its audience with beautiful, multi-layered music.
High energy swarmed from the band as it projected sounds of soulful piano and heavy, pulsating trombone.
The layers of music melded together with great ease and the performance constituted a contemporary, night club vibe.
Although the performance lasted just under an hour, it was packed with rich, blues-like solos that kept the audience’s attention.
Nearly every performer had a solo, which perfectly showed off everyone’s individual talent.
In the middle of the performance, a female vocalist was added, which was a nice touch. She added to the soulfulness by use of her mellow, yet intriguing voice. Her vocals fit well within the music, almost as though another instrument was added.
The audience interacted well to the music and gave much applause during and after the performance. NIU’s Jazz Band has many upcoming performances; and, toward the end of the performance, the conductor strongly encouraged the audience to come out for them.
Again, an hour with the NIU Jazz Band provided to be a serene experience definitely worth checking out.
