Why video games based off of movies?

By DAVID MATZ

It seems like with every new action movie comes a corresponding video game. “James Bond: Quantum of Solace” is the latest movie-turned-video game to follow the trend. But it’s not just James Bond that has videogames made after it, there’s all the “Spiderman” games, the resurgence of Batman led to a LEGO version game and even “The Da Vinci Code” had a video game to go along with the movie.

I personally don’t understand the attraction of video games that are based off of movies. What’s the point of playing a game that closely mimics the movie in storyline and in action scenes? There’s not going to be any surprises or story twists that you haven’t already seen. If I were to spend the money on a brand new video game, I would want something different that I haven’t seen already, I would want a game that has the same character as the movie, but a different storyline, different action scenes, and a new title to make it separate from the movie.
