’30 Rock’ starts off on right foot

The Emmy award winning sitcom “30 Rock” premiered on Thursday night for its third season.

The premiere started with Jack Donaghy (Alec Baldwin) coming back to the office wanting to regain his job as network executive and willing to do anything for it. This summer Donaghy worked in Washington supporting the Republican party.

All the while, Liz Lemon (Tina Fey) wants to adopt a child but must show an adoption evaluator that she is a worthy candidate first. “Will and Grace” star Megan Mullally guest starred as Bev, the strict, no-nonsense evaluator and brought the show a new flavor. Of course while Lemon attempts to prove that she would be a worthy mother, her co-workers constantly make her look like a fool.

Although “30 Rock” was entertaining during the whole episode, it didn’t score any big laughs until the last ten climatic minutes, involving a scene with Mullally, an enraged lover and a pair of golden nunchucks. The whole episode stayed at a constant entertaining giggle, but nothing worthy of laughing out loud. The premiere wasn’t upsetting or disappointing, but gave the viewer what they were hoping for; smart, quirky and subtle humor that “30 Rock” has become known for.

Guest star Megan Mullally was able to provide new laughs as a strict character in this otherwise loose cast.

“30 Rock” had a successful and entertaining start to another season.
