The Rant: Playing with fire

By MIKE BUDA

Watching the Nov. 13 Chicago Fire game on ESPN2, I was disappointed that what I really ended up watching was a “diving” competition.

The whole match was riddled with dive after dive from Columbus Crew players and they were not punished once. In the second half, these cheats were rewarded for their deceiving play.

The Fire did have a 1-0 lead, but a dive-and-a-half from Robbie Rogers gave Columbus a free kick, a goal and the momentum. The game changed for good after that and the Crew won 2-1.

The MLS needs to crack down and stop rewarding this terrible play, and some yellow cards need to start showing up before this atrocity happens again.
