A Democrat in office may strengthen the economy

No doubt John McCain fits the image of a traditional president. However, this image could be what worked against him in this historic election.

After an eight-year term under President Bush, Americans wanted something different. McCain put up a good fight while endorsing change, but Obama prevailed.

“I’m more moderate, somewhere in the middle,” said Scott Madaski, theater and dance instructor. “I did expect Obama to win due to how the Republicans ran the country for the past eight years.”

With a Democratic president, the nation will use liberal views to get the economy back in shape.

Madaski hopes to see the economy get better, but expects little.

“I’m being a realist because I know there is a lot of work that needs to be done,” Madaski said.

Republicans generally create weaker economies because of their conservative, pure black-and-white views. Democrats, on the other hand, while rough around the edges because of their desire to please, strengthen the economy.

The middle-class needed a hero to look up to, and Obama came flying in with a red cape, and cookie-cutter McCain met his kryptonite.

For the past eight years, we’ve had a Republican president battling a Democratic Congress. Obama will be a Democratic president working with a Democratic congress. The victory for the Democrats puts a lot of weight on Obama’s shoulders.

He needs to fulfill his promises about the war, health care, gun control, education, environment and our economy.

Obama’s election made history; hopefully his changes will be historic as well.
