Candidate: Jim Oberweis

Party affiliation: Republican

Oberweis began his career in the financial services industry. He is the Chairman of Asset Management for the Oberweis Micro-Cap Fund. Oberweis signed Americans for Tax Reform, a bill that opposes any and all efforts to increase the marginal tax rates for individuals and/or businesses.

Oberweis feels that pulling our economy out of deficit can also be achieved by reducing dependence on foreign oil. He would like to invest in offshore drilling to bring America into the oil market.

He supports the war in Iraq and dismisses any attempts at a bipartisan withdrawal plan. Oberweis believes providing security for the American homeland must be the federal government’s top priority. He feels the government must eliminate incentives to illegal immigration.

On health care, Oberweis feels elemental health care reform must move away from the third party system by reintroducing incentives for managing independent health care expenditures such as Tax-free Health Savings Accounts.
