Flavors of the Week

By NYSSA BULKES

This week, Flavors of the Week is served in a scrumptious Homecoming sundae. The scoops are a cool treat to recap the weekend’s events ranging from best to worst, three scoops being super awesome and one scoop being just outright wrong.

“Huskie’s Pistachio Pride” (Three scoops)

Diving into the most delicious scoop this weekend, our Huskie Football team has finally broken the 19-year losing streak to Toledo. With a red sea of proud fans (fueled from hours of tailgating) the Huskie Stadium was alive and demanding a win. In an intense Homecoming game, the Huskies delivered by trampling out the Rockets’ flame in a stunning 38-7 win. The crowd went wild, and the cannon blasts proudly announced a victory for Victor E.

“Lit-up Lemon Meringue” (Two scoops)

Students living in Stadium View and Lincolnshire West were delivered an unpleasant scoop by the bright lights of Huskie Stadium. On the night of the big game, the towering stadium lights shone brightly through the windows of the adjacent buildings late into the night. For those students not still celebrating the Huskie’s big win, the lights were rather annoying, but at least the music selection was decent for the first hour or so of the clean-up. I wouldn’t mind a copy of the maintenance crew’s mix tape to enjoy after football season is over.

“Rocky Route 38” (One scoop)

In a scoop that wasn’t so easy to swallow, Homecoming brought with it the not so delightful traffic surges. Though it is known to occur every year this time in October, it is never fun to sit in traffic for 15 to 20 minutes to pick up your pizza that is only four blocks away. This weekend, the intersection of Annie Glidden and Lincoln Highway was blanketed with vehicles all day. While it is usually hard to look forward to a Monday, the Monday after Homecoming is a welcome sight after the lines of cars, honking horns and angry drivers from the weekend.
