Drivers are going to notice something different as they go by, or stop at, the intersection of Bethany and Glidden roads.

The intersection of Bethany and Glidden roads is now a four-way stop intersection after stop signs were put up Oct. 9.

Before the stop signs were added, there were signs reading “dangerous intersection” to warn drivers to look out for potentially hazardous situations.

DeKalb County Sheriff Roger Scott said the community’s concerns resulted in the stop signs being implemented.

“People have had concerns for the last couple of years regarding that intersection,” Scott said.

His goal for the four-way stop is for people to be more aware of their surroundings at the intersection.

“I hope that everyone stops and looks to see what the traffic allows,” Scott said.

Bill Lorence, DeKalb County highway engineer, said accidents at the intersection are another reason it became a four-way stop.

“A warrant for a four-way stop was met when there were five accidents in a 12-month period,” Lorence said. “Also, in the last five years there have been 21 accidents at that intersection.”

The accidents at the intersection of Bethany and Glidden roads caused several people to complain about it.

“Neighbors around the corner and other people had someone they knew that was involved in an accident there,” Lorence said. “Which got them to voice their concerns to DeKalb County board members.”

Another intersection considered dangerous might be getting traffic safety features as well.

“A roundabout might be put in the intersection of Rich and Glidden roads,” Lorence said. “It currently has flashing lights that were put in a few years back.”
