Political experience: DeKalb Circuit County Clerk since 1984. She formerly worked in the DeKalb County State’s Attorney’s Office and at the Creston School District.

The candidates for DeKalb Circuit County Clerk are Democrat Josh Boies and Republican Maureen Josh.

Josh Boies has acted as the Deputy Clerk in the DeKalb County Circuit Clerk’s office. He has worked as a technology specialist in the Kane County Office of Education in Geneva, an eBusiness Webmaster at General Growth Properties in Chicago, a media buyer at Campbell-Mithun in Minneapolis and an English teacher in Central and Southeast Asia. He was born and raised in Sycamore, and is the great-great-grandson of the founding father of DeKalb County, Henry Boies. He graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. from St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN. He studied abroad in Israel in 1996 and South America in 1997.

Maureen Josh has been the DeKalb Circuit County Clerk since 1984. She formerly worked in the DeKalb County State’s Attorney’s Office and at the Creston School District. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin at Platteville with a B.S. in education. She has been the president of the Northeast Illinois Circuit Clerk’s Association since 1989. She is a co-chairperson of the Circuit Clerk Technology Committee, member of executive board and legislative committee of the Illinois Association of Circuit Court Clerks. She is the co-chair for VINE Implementation of the Crime Victim and Witness Notification Advisory Committee. She is a member of the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority, DeKalb County Bar Association, National Federation of Republican Women, Republican Women Roundtable, DeKalb County Republican Party, DeKalb County Republican Women, Republican Women’s Network, St. Mary’s Church in Sycamore and National Association for Court Management. She was a Supreme Court appointment to the Training of New Circuit Clerks and a participant in the Circuit Clerk Mentor Program.

The office of the DeKalb Circuit County Clerk “has the responsibility of receiving and filing all civil, probate, criminal, juvenile and traffic cases,” according to the DeKalb Circuit County Clerk Web site. The clerk “collects all child support, traffic and criminal case payments; issues all processes such as citations, notices and summons for service to the Sheriff and subpoenas all witnesses in trials of all matters; and must be present at all court sessions to swear in witnesses and write minutes on each case.”
