The Rant: No World Series with Boston or New York is great

By STEVE NITZ

It’s great isn’t it? A World Series without New York or Boston.

It’s refreshing to see a fall classic without teams like the Yankees, Red Sox and Mets – teams that are on national television 500 times during the regular season, and teams that ESPN won’t shut up about.

New teams like the Phillies and Rays are a refreshing change. Philadelphia hasn’t been to the fall classic since 1993 and has won only one World Series (1980) since the event started. Tampa Bay has never been to the World Series since the franchise started in 1998.

Enjoy this World Series, because odds are once it’s over, you’ll be hearing about the Yankees and Red Sox over and over again.
