Sycamore businesses targets of larceny
September 30, 2008
Eight Sycamore businesses were the targets of larceny over the last two months, which police believe are connected.
Ranging from Aug. 9 to Sept. 30, a total of eight larcenies have been reported during the “overnight hours,” according to a Sycamore Police Department news release. The businesses are located on DeKalb Avenue, Cottage Row, Oakland Drive, Prairie Drive, Bethany Road and Hauser Ross Drive, according to the release.
Sycamore Police declined to comment on the specific times, locations or names of the businesses where larceny occurred.
Most of the businesses were entered by the suspects prying the door open, and one case of a window being smashed, according to the release. Items reported stolen were cash, flat panel televisions and a computer.
“I don’t know if they are all connected, but I suspect many of them are,” said Sycamore Police Sergeant Steve Cook. “We have some leads we’re running down and have recovered some evidence.”
The DeKalb Police Department has seen four similar larceny cases over the last four months, and are working with Sycamore Police to determine if they are connected, said DeKalb Police Lt. Gary Spangler.
“We try and link similarities,” Spangler said. “Whether or not they are connected is unknown.”
