The Rant: What a year 2004 was

By JUSTIN WEAVER

2004. What a time to be alive.

The Lakers were embarrassed in the Finals, a Republican tried to salvage his presidential campaign and Daunte Culpepper was arguably the best quarterback in the world.

Fast forward four years. The more things change, the more they stay the same; but, as we learned on “Sesame Street,” one of these things is not like the others.

Sporting glaucoma-inducing Viking purple just a few years ago, Culpepper threw for over 4,700 yards and 39 TDs. But one severely mismanaged injury and two failed comebacks later, his career appeared over.

That was until recently, when Culpepper announced he would try one more comeback; by the time you read this, he may even already be on the Chiefs roster. And I’ll be glad to see it.

It’s a shame someone with the passion and talent Culpepper possesses had his career ruined as he did, thanks in part to Miami coaches rushing him back from a career-threatening injury a year too soon. It’s even more ridiculous no team will give him a job, considering how many worthless passers are currently taking up space on NFL rosters. Unlike Dan Orlovsky, Culpepper at least knows when the end zone ENDS.

Culpepper still has some football left in him. We may have 2004 on our hands again.
