Batman doesn’t kill – or will he?
October 19, 2008
Even after just watching the trailer or a commercial for “The Dark Knight,” the most Batman-challenged person could have figured out that there is a line the Caped Crusader does not cross.
But it looks like he’s about to deliver a batarang to that line’s jugular on Nov. 16.
That’s when the fighting game “Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe” is released for the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360.
Even though I haven’t played MK since middle school, it was one of the best fighting games of all time. Combine that with the great characters from the DC Universe and you got a hit on your hands.
And it probably is going to be a great game, but I got a gripe with it already.
It seems as though Batman if finally going to have to do someone in—unless instead of killing them he ties them up and ships them off to jail—breaking one of his two cardinal rules (the other is not using guns).
I’m a little torn up about this. Despite his menacing, brutal and intense nature, Batman has always been one of the most morally pure superheroes around. No matter what terrible things the Joker, Killer Croc or the Riddler do, Batman always sends them off to Arkham Asylum even though it would be infinitely easier to kill them. He knows he needs to have this line in order to differentiate himself from the criminals.
Now, he’s just going to be like the rest of them.
But given the circumstances, I guess it’ll be fine for the Dark Knight to finally really let loose on someone, especially if that someone is Sub-Zero or Raiden. Just so long as this Batman doesn’t creep into the world of comics and film inhabited by the morally pure Batman.
