City offering help to dispose of sandbags

By NORTHERN STAR STAFF

The city is offering assistance to DeKalb residents wanting to dispose of sandbags used during recent flooding.

“This is an effort on the city’s part to help offset some of the recovery efforts that our residents will be going through,” said Rick Monas, director of DeKalb Public Works.

Residents are encouraged to call 815-748-2030 by Friday with the approximate number of sandbags to be picked up and the address of pickup. Once this information is collected, a collection date will be established at no cost to DeKalb residents, according to a Sept. 19 DeKalb press release.

For pickup, sandbags should be stacked and placed on the parkway, not on the street or curb/gutter line, according to the release. Those unable to lift the sandbags are advised to let the city know.

No other sandbag removal efforts will be made and any not collected are the responsibility of the resident after that date, according to the release.

For more information, call the Department of Public Works at 815-748-2030 or 815-748-2040.
