‘Tyler Perry’s The Family That Preys’
– 10/10
“Tyler Perry’s the Family that Preys” is nothing short of exceptional. This heart-warming, sensational film about the strength of family values over monetary issues is sure to please any moviegoer.
From the opening, the film captures the audience’s attention by taking a typical Hollywood wedding scene and making it comedic and relatable. As the bride and groom are preparing for the ceremony, both express their typical wedding day jitters. However, a fight over the kindness of family friend Ms. Charlotte (Kathy Bates), who pays for the wedding, leads to moments of enjoyable laughter between the bride and her sister.
As the film skips ahead four years later, the real theme of the film comes out. Focusing on the uncommon friendship between diner owner Alice (Alfre Woodard) and Charlotte, who’s a wealthy corporate woman, the mischief each woman has put up with from children makes the film entertaining and keeps the audience on their toes.
Alice’s heartless daughter Andrea (Sanaa Lathan) holds a job for Charlotte’s son at their company where she is raking in the money. However, Alice watches as her daughter’s marriage falls apart, and everyone is affected by the affair that Andrea and Charlotte’s son have.
Tired of the drama, the two mothers take a road trip to get away from it all. During the trip, the movie hits its peak moment as Charlotte reveals some life-changing news that incites a gasp from the audience.
All hats go off to Perry as he brilliantly flavors up issues of infidelity, greed, backstabbing and being kind to everyone. As the film starts off strong in the beginning, the consistency throughout the film keeps the audience on its toes and causes several verbal reactions from the audience as the characters constantly do the unexpected.
As this movie took second at the box office this weekend, it is surely one that is not to be passed up.
