Season doesn’t look promising for Indiana State Sycamores
September 18, 2008
To put it simply, Indiana State football hasn’t been very successful in recent years. The Sycamores went 0-11 one season ago and have won one game since 2004.
Indiana State alum and Terre Haute native Trent Miles is in his first season at the helm of the Sycamore program. Even with the new head coach, things haven’t really changed in Terre Haute. The Sycamores lost their first two games against Eastern Michigan and Eastern Illinois by a combined score of 70-3.
“Offensively and defensively, they went in and put in a system and they’re going to stick to that system,” said NIU head coach Jerry Kill. “The big thing is that [Miles] knows what he’s doing.”
Due to Indiana State’s lack of success in recent years, the Sycamores were picked to finish last in the Missouri Valley Conference.
However, there are a few bright spots for Indiana State, and one of those is senior linebacker Jayden Everett, who leads the Sycamores with 14 tackles on the season.
Last season, Everett had 26 tackles with 2.5 tackles for loss in just three games. He also tied for the team lead with two forced fumbles.
In 2006, Everett’s last full season, he had 61 tackles, with eight tackles for a loss in his first season with the Sycamores, after transferring from Coffeyville Community College in Kansas.
