Local band hopes to gain local fan base

On Sept. 13, Tim Lydon, a sophomore communication major, will use his musical talent to entertain, but also to support one of his favorite bands.
Lydon’s Lombard-based band, Nothing Is Forever, will be playing at the House Cafe, 263 E. Lincoln Highway, with headlining band Bleeding Through.
Other bands playing include Aesthyrian, from St. Charles and Deus Absconditus from Chicago.
“I’m a big Bleeding Through fan,” Lydon said. “It’s a privilege to play with them. It makes us, as a band, want to work harder to show that we’re not only there to support them, we’re sharing the stage.”
Lydon and Nothing Is Forever have played the House Cafe three times before.
He hopes this show will draw the attention of DeKalb residents as well as NIU students.
“The first time we played, there was no one there except our friends and the other bands,” Lydon said.
“Then we headlined a show, and a lot of local kids came out. Now we’re playing with Bleeding Through as direct support. I feel like we’re progressing because more and more people come each time.”
Besides attracting new faces, Lydon has other expectations for the upcoming show.
He hopes that by playing this concert, as well as others, Nothing is Forever will create a fan base for not only his own band, but other similar bands in DeKalb.
“Although we’ve played here before, not a lot of the college kids come because there’s not much of a scene out here like the one that’s been established in the suburbs,” Lydon said.
“That’s why we like to play here. We’d like to start a scene here too.”
Lydon describes Nothing Is Forever’s sound as “melodic hardcore, with a little bit of thrash.”
Tony Hall, sophomore accounting major has seen the band a number of times before.
“They had good energy and a great atmosphere,” Hall said.
