Electronic recycling program set for Saturday
September 18, 2008
Getting rid of old technology has never been easier.
The Solid Waste Management Program and the DeKalb County Farm Bureau are hosting an electronic collection program from 8:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday at the DeKalb County Health Department, 2550 N. Annie Glidden Road.
“We’ve been doing these routinely since spring of 2006,” said Christel Springmire, the health department’s environmental health practitioner .
By uniting with the Farm Bureau, the health department is able to reach several households in DeKalb County.
“We can actually send mail out to our members,” said Greg Millburg, manager of the DeKalb County Farm Bureau.
The collection is free and open only to DeKalb residents but students may be eligible.
“They’d have to bring a photo ID and a utility bill,” Springmire said.
According to a press release, acceptable items for the drop off are: cell phones, fax machines, telephones, stereos, DVD players, VCRs, computers, printers, scanners, household batteries, monitors (1 monitor limit) and compact florescent bulbs.
