Stephen Colbert can sing?
September 18, 2008
“The Colbert Report” has solidified Stephen Colbert as a powerhouse TV host, but that’s not enough anymore.
He has been slowly transforming his show into more of a variety show than a “straight” fake-news program, ala “The Daily Show.” He has done this is by jumping into the music world.
Colbert has performed plenty of times already on his show. He has sung with Willie Nelson, Tony Bennett, The Roots, John Legend and Crosby, Stills and Nash to name a few.
But now things are starting to get to that crazy Colbert level that is ridiculous, funny and mind-blowing all at once.
Last week his song, “Charlene (I’m Right Behind You)” from “The Colbert Report,” was released, for free, for the “Rock Band” video game.
In late November, Colbert will have a musical Christmas special. Along with Legend and Nelson, scheduled to appear are Feist, Elvis Costello, Toby Keith and other surprise guests.
Colbert’s even slated to sing a duet with Jon Stewart from “The Daily Show” in a song titled “Hanukkah.”
Colbert is a very polarizing entertainer. People either thing he’s the greatest performer alive or a talentless nobody.
He does, however, have the greatest voice in all the news business and just about the greatest in the late night world. He is currently tied with Conan O’Brien from “Late Night” for “Handsomest Voice.”
But whatever you think of Colbert, you got to give it up for those pipes of his.
The man can sing.
