What happened to Stallone? (Sylvester)
September 23, 2008
What happened to Stallone?
Sylvester, not Frank. That guy is hilarious.
If you look at his best stuff, he was great at what he had to be. Of course, I’m talking about “Rocky” and “First Blood.”
After being nominated for best actor and best writer at the Academy Awards, it seemed as though Stallone had it all. He probably did, but it took him six years to finally make another really good movie, 1982’s “First Blood.”
Ask someone now about the two movies, and they’ll laugh them off as ridiculous action movies that were over-the-top in most ways. But the first two movies of each franchise were dramatic and all around great movies.
It’s when they kept on rehashing the movies that things started to go south.
“Rocky” was a movie about just having an opportunity to prove yourself.
“Rocky II” was about finally overcoming the odds.
“Rocky III” was about being overcoming the odds again … only lamer, but with Mr. T.
“Rocky IV” was about beating the red off a Commie.
“Rocky V” was about making fun of Don King.
“Rocky Balboa” was about something.
Same goes for the Rambo movies. “First Blood” is a about a Vietnam veteran trying to be accepted in the country he defended.
Then Rambo resorts to his killing-machine self and goes nuts over the Vietnamese, again. Then he helps the Taliban in the third one and gets even muscle-ier in the final one.
Stallone was never the best actor around, but he was serviceable and in some pretty good movies.
Well, two pretty good movies.
