Two in Noriega case still awaiting trials
August 27, 2008
Two out of four defendants still await trial in connection to the April 2007 death of Luis Noriega.
Nathan E. Schrank is charged with two counts of first-degree murder, one count of involuntary manslaughter and three counts of aggravated battery.
The charges are the result of what police called an attack on Noriega which occurred on April 15, 2007 outside of Reilly’s Bar & Eatery, 1215 Blackhawk Rd., in DeKalb.
The trial for Schrank had been postponed while his attorney worked with an expert witness.
“We still haven’t gotten his expert witness report,” said Joseph Cullen, DeKalb County first assistant state’s attorney.
Schrank’s new trial date has been set for Nov. 17.
The other defendant awaiting trial is Emily Hobbs, charged with four counts of aggravated battery. Her trial has been set for Oct. 6.
Cullen said both Christopher Tadder and Fred J. Jakob pleaded guilty to four counts of aggravated battery and each have been sentenced.
Tadder was sentenced April 17 to 88 days in the DeKalb County Jail, 30 months probation, 100 hours of community service and anger management counseling, Cullen said.
Cullen said Jakob received a similar sentence June 16, with the exception of spending 90 days in the DeKalb County Jail.
