Things to do in DeKalb

Before you die of boredom, read this list. There might be a few new things you haven’t even heard about…

– Go to a show at a local café or bar in DeKalb. Bands usually charge minimal cover fees, and the shows often draw good-sized crowds.

– The East Lagoon on campus is pretty in every season. Walk along the paths and check out the trees as the leaves change color for fall.

– The disc golf course at Prairie Park is a free, laid-back activity. Even if you’re no disc golf pro, you enjoy a nice walk around the park.

– Check out a play or concert at NIU. These are usually free or cheap to see and offer a great variety of your peers’ talent.

– The skate park at Katz Park in DeKalb is a free option for those into gliding on wheels or boards.

– Shopping in DeKalb offers many options, from the downtown shops to those along Sycamore Road.

– Take a tour of the Ellwood House on First Street. It’s a great piece of local history, and it doesn’t cost much.

– Cheer on your Huskie athletic teams. This fall, men’s and women’s soccer, football and volleyball and others will all compete in numerous match-ups.

– Eat out! There are tons of restaurants in DeKalb; take advantage of the plethora of options, from Thai to Mexican to breakfast at all hours.

– You can bowl or play pool at the Huskie Den in the Holmes Student Center. It’s cheap and no car is necessary.
